Why websites need maintenance
Website maintenance is the routine work that keeps a live website secure and working: updating software, taking backups, monitoring for problems and fixing them, and keeping content current. WordPress sites in particular rely on a core system, a theme and plugins, each updated by different developers. Skipping updates leaves known security holes open; applying them blindly can break pages.
A maintenance plan puts someone in charge of that work, with a clear list of what's covered and what isn't, so problems are caught early instead of being discovered by a customer.

WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, checked on a backup or staging copy before applying where possible.
Backups
Scheduled backups of files and database, stored away from your hosting server, with restores tested.
Uptime monitoring
Automated checks that alert us if your website goes down, so it can be investigated quickly.
Security checks
Malware scans, login protection, user account reviews and SSL certificate checks.
Fixes and troubleshooting
Broken layouts, form problems, errors after updates and similar issues investigated and fixed.
Content changes
Text, image, price and page updates, within the time allowance in your plan.
Signs your website needs looking after
- The dashboard shows dozens of pending updates
- You don't know when the last backup was taken
- The contact form hasn't sent an enquiry in weeks
- Pages load slower than they used to
- You've seen security warnings or unfamiliar admin users
- Nobody in the business has the hosting login
What isn't usually included
To keep plans fair and predictable, these are quoted separately:

- Ongoing SEO work (see SEO services)
- Hosting, domain and premium licence renewals, which are billed by the providers
Your plan lists exactly what's included and how requests are handled.

What affects the cost of maintenance
- Platform and number of plugins
- Whether it's an online store
- Backup frequency and retention
- Monthly content-change allowance
- How quickly you need responses
Published guides, such as Hostinger India's 2026 cost guide, list outsourced maintenance for small websites from about ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 a year, and monthly retainers from about ₹1,000 to ₹5,000. Plans vary widely in what they include, so compare the scope, not just the price. See our cost guide.

Website maintenance questions
How often should a WordPress website be updated?
Security updates should be applied soon after release, and routine plugin and theme updates checked at least monthly. Busy sites and online stores usually need more frequent attention.
Do you maintain websites built by other developers?
Yes, after a health check. Some sites need clean-up work first, such as removing abandoned plugins, which we'll quote separately.
What happens if an update breaks my website?
We restore from the backup taken before the update, then find and fix the conflict. This is why backups are taken before updates are applied.
What ongoing costs should I expect after my website launches?
Typically domain renewal, hosting, any premium plugin or theme licences, and maintenance if you choose a plan. Online stores may also pay payment gateway fees. We list these in your quote so you know the yearly cost before you start.
Can I cancel a maintenance plan?
Plan terms, including notice periods, are set out in writing before you start. Your website and all logins remain yours either way.
