Website Development Cost in India: What Businesses Should Budget For
What websites cost in India in 2026, why quotes vary so much, which yearly costs people forget, and how to compare quotes fairly. Market figures come from published sources, clearly separated from our own pricing.
According to Hostinger India's 2026 cost guide (updated February 2026, prices excluding GST), a basic website costs roughly ₹5,000 to ₹50,000, a small business website ₹10,000 to ₹80,000, a professional business website ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000, an e-commerce website ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more, and a custom website ₹2,50,000 to ₹10,00,000 or more. On top of that, budget for yearly domain, hosting and maintenance costs.
Published cost ranges by website type
The table below uses the ranges from Hostinger India's guide, which also describes typical page counts for each type. Treat them as a market overview: your project could fall outside them in either direction.
| Website type | Typical size | Published range (excl. GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic or static website | 1 to 5 pages | ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 |
| Small business website | 5 to 15 pages | ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 |
| Professional business website | 10 to 20 pages | ₹80,000 to ₹1,50,000 |
| E-commerce website | Catalogue, cart and checkout | ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000+ |
| Custom or enterprise website | Custom features and integrations | ₹2,50,000 to ₹10,00,000+ |
A second guide, from Fuzen (updated 10 August 2026), gives broadly similar figures: ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 for a freelancer-built brochure site, ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 for a CMS-based business website, ₹50,000 to ₹3,00,000 or more for e-commerce and ₹2,00,000 to ₹15,00,000 or more for an agency-built custom web application.
Both sources also note the difference between who builds the site. Hostinger's guide lists freelancers at roughly ₹10,000 to ₹80,000 for a one-time build and agencies typically at ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 or more.
Why website quotes vary so much
If you've collected three quotes for "a business website" and received three very different numbers, these are usually the reasons.
Number and type of pages
A homepage and a few similar service pages take far less work than twenty pages with different layouts. Ask whether the quote counts unique templates or total pages.
Custom design or an adapted theme
Adapting an existing theme is quicker and cheaper. A custom design takes longer but fits your content and brand more closely. Neither is wrong; they suit different budgets and goals.
Who writes the content
Writing clear, useful copy for every page is real work. Some quotes include it, many don't. If yours doesn't, you'll need to write it, and the launch date depends on it.
Features and integrations
Bookings, payments, calculators, multiple languages and connections to other software each add build and testing time. Hostinger's guide estimates ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 per custom feature or integration.
SEO work included
"SEO-friendly" can mean anything from installing a plugin to planning every page around search demand. Ask exactly what's done: titles, descriptions, headings, schema, sitemap, speed and Search Console setup.
Testing, launch and handover
Careful testing on phones and a documented handover take time that cheaper quotes often skip.
Yearly costs after launch
A website isn't a one-time cost. These are the recurring items to budget for, with the ranges published in Hostinger India's 2026 guide.
| Cost | Published range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | ₹500 to ₹1,500 a year | Depends on the extension, such as .com or .in |
| Shared hosting | ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 a year | Enough for most small business websites |
| Managed WordPress hosting | ₹3,000 to ₹8,000 a year | More support and performance features |
| Premium plugins | ₹1,000 to ₹8,000 per plugin a year | Only if the site needs them |
| Maintenance (small site) | ₹1,500 to ₹10,000 a year | Scope varies widely between providers |
| Maintenance (e-commerce) | ₹10,000 to ₹25,000 a year | Stores need more frequent attention |
Online stores also pay payment gateway charges on each transaction, and Shopify stores pay a monthly subscription. Check those prices directly with the providers, as they change.
What low-cost website packages often leave out
Very cheap packages can be fine for a simple online presence, but compare them carefully. These are the things most often missing or unclear:
- Who owns the domain, hosting and admin login
- What renewal costs are in year two, after a "free" first year
- How many rounds of changes are included
- Whether content writing is included
- What "SEO" actually covers
- What happens if you want to move to another developer
How to compare website quotes
Ask every provider the same questions, in writing, and compare the answers rather than the totals.
- Which pages and features are included, exactly?
- Is the design custom or based on a theme?
- Who writes the content and supplies images?
- How many review rounds are included?
- Which SEO tasks are done before launch?
- Will the domain, hosting and logins be in my name?
- What will I pay each year after launch?
- What are the payment milestones?
- What support is available after launch, and at what cost?

Website cost questions
How much does a basic business website cost in India?
Hostinger India's 2026 guide puts a basic 1 to 5 page website at about ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 and a small business website of 5 to 15 pages at about ₹10,000 to ₹80,000, excluding GST. Content, design approach and features move the price within those ranges.
How much does an e-commerce website cost in India?
Published 2026 guides put agency-built e-commerce websites at roughly ₹1,50,000 to ₹4,00,000 or more, while smaller stores built by freelancers can cost less. Product count, payment and shipping integrations, and product data entry are the biggest factors.
How much does it cost to run a website every year?
For a small business website, typically a domain (about ₹500 to ₹1,500), hosting (about ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 for shared hosting) and optional maintenance, based on Hostinger India's 2026 figures. Premium plugins and online-store fees add to this.
Why is one quote ₹15,000 and another ₹1,50,000 for the same website?
Usually because they aren't the same website. Differences in custom design, content writing, features, SEO work, testing and support explain most gaps. Compare quotes line by line using the questions in this guide.
Is a very cheap website worth it?
It can be, for a simple presence, as long as you own the domain and logins, know the renewal costs and accept the limits. For a website meant to bring in steady enquiries, planning, content and SEO foundations usually matter more than the lowest price.
