Responsive Website Design for Businesses

Website designs that look credible, read easily and guide visitors towards contacting you. Designed for phones first, built around your brand, and checked for accessibility before anything goes live.

  • Mobile-first layouts
  • Brand-led, not template-led
  • Accessibility checks
  • Designed for enquiries

Good website design is about decisions, not decoration

Website design decides what a visitor sees first, what they read next and how easily they can act. Colours and fonts matter, but the decisions that affect enquiries are about hierarchy: a clear headline, proof that you can be trusted, services that are easy to scan, and a contact route that's always within reach.

We design every page around one question: what does this visitor need to know before they're comfortable contacting you? Then we make that information easy to find on a small screen, because many of your visitors will be using one.

Design problems that cost you enquiries

Visitors can't tell what you do

A vague headline or a slider of stock photos leaves people guessing.

Our fix: a specific headline, a one-line summary of who you help and the main action, visible without scrolling.

Everything shouts at once

Too many colours, fonts and banners make it hard to know where to look.

Our fix: a restrained palette, consistent type sizes and a clear visual priority on every page.

Text is hard to read

Light grey text, long lines and small fonts tire readers quickly.

Our fix: sufficient contrast, comfortable line lengths and generous spacing.

It looks like a template

A generic theme makes a business look like everyone else.

Our fix: layouts designed for your content, your brand and your real photos.

What our website design service includes

Content hierarchy

We decide what goes first on each page based on what buyers need to know, then design around it.

Responsive layouts

Each template is designed to work at phone, tablet and desktop widths, with no sideways scrolling.

Brand integration

Your logo, colours and typography applied consistently, or a simple style guide if you're starting out.

Conversion areas

Calls to action, forms, WhatsApp and phone buttons placed where people are ready to act.

Imagery direction

Guidance on photos to take or use, how to crop them and how to keep them light enough to load quickly.

Accessibility basics

Colour contrast, visible keyboard focus, readable text sizes, descriptive links and labelled form fields.

Designing for mobile first

On a phone, there's room for one idea at a time. Designing the mobile layout first forces clear priorities: the headline, the key benefit, the call to action and the proof. The desktop version then adds space rather than removing clutter.

  • Buttons large enough to tap comfortably
  • Sticky call and WhatsApp bar where it helps
  • Menus that open and close predictably
  • Forms with the right keyboard for each field
  • Images sized for small screens so pages load fast

Accessibility is part of good design

Accessible websites are easier for everyone to use, including people on old phones, in bright sunlight or with less experience online. We design with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2) at level AA as our reference point.

  • Text and buttons with enough contrast
  • Headings in a logical order
  • Every image given meaningful alt text
  • Visible focus when using a keyboard
  • Motion reduced for visitors who request it

How the design process works

  1. Brief and references

Your brand, audience, competitors and the websites you like (and dislike), and why.

    Output: design brief
  2. Homepage design

The homepage sets the visual language, so it's designed and reviewed first.

    You approve: homepage design
  3. Inner page templates

Service, about, contact and other templates follow the approved style.

    You approve: page templates
  4. Build and refine

The design is built and refined in the browser, where you see real behaviour on your own phone.

    You approve: staging sign-off

What affects the cost of website design

  • Number of unique page templates
  • Custom design or an adapted theme
  • Whether brand guidelines already exist
  • Illustrations, icons or custom graphics
  • Number of review rounds

Design is usually quoted together with development. See how our pricing works.

Website design questions

Do you design websites from scratch or use templates?

Both are possible. A custom design suits businesses that need to stand out or have unusual content. An adapted theme can be a sensible lower-cost option for simple sites. Either way, layouts are adjusted to your actual content rather than filled with placeholders.

Can you redesign just the look of my current website?

Sometimes. If the site's structure and platform are sound, a visual refresh may be enough. If it's slow, hard to edit or poorly structured, a fuller website redesign usually gives better value.

Do you need a logo before starting?

It helps, but it's not essential. If you don't have one yet, tell us in your enquiry and we'll discuss options; logo work is quoted separately.

How many design changes can I ask for?

The number of review rounds is written into your scope. Feedback is collected in one place for each round, which keeps changes clear and the project on schedule.

Will the design work on every phone?

Layouts are flexible rather than fixed to specific devices, and we test on a range of phone widths, tablets and desktops before launch.
